Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims, the injured and all those affected by the bombings in Boston yesterday. Three people are now dead and 176 people were injured in the twin blasts that took place near the finish line along the Boston marathon route. While many questions remain unclear, what is clear is that this was a cowardly act of terrorism meant to inflict maximum pain. We know this for a number of reasons including the timing of the different detonations and the materials used, including shrapnel and ball bearings. It's sad and unbelievable that sick and twisted people continue to exist in this world and seek to hurt innocent people and instill fear in our society. But America's darkest hours always end up shining light on our perseverance, and the good in humanity outshines the evil. Yesterday's heroic actions on the part of many, in the face of such horror, are a testament to that spirit. A Runner's POV Of Boston Explosion Earlier this morning, Sean tweeted a link to this video, posted to YouTube by NekoAngel3Wolf, which shows one of the violent explosions that rocked the Boston Marathon from a runner's point of view. According the video's author, the film was taken by his mother on a cell phone as she was approaching the finish. She did not finish, but was walked away unscathed with her family. Who Attacked The Boston Marathon? We still do not know who was responsible for the cowardly attack at the Boston Marathon yesterday. However, our nation's first Secretary of Homeland Security, Tom Ridge, knows all too well about those who want to harm and kill Americans. Ridge joined Sean on last night's 'Hannity' broadcast. "We have a tendency in a just in time world in the United States of America to look at our watches. We have watches and they have time. Every day goes by we have been very fortunate for almost 10 years with the exception of Fort Hood and a couple other events, but we've been very fortunate," Ridge explained. "This is a global surge and sadly it's a reality we have to deal with. In spite of all the efforts, and I'm confident that they did everything they could to secure as best they could 26-plus miles." The Politicization Of Terror It's unfortunate that when tragedy strikes, the coverage itself becomes a part of the story. Sometimes this is done intentionally to push an agenda, and sometimes it just happens amidst coverage of a breaking story as you search for answers and reasons. Politicians and those associated with politics were not exempt from such shameful speculation, along with the media. NBC News reporter Luke Russert speculated that this could be related to Patriot's Day, referring back to the events that took place in Waco, Texas in 1993. It didn't end there with MSNBC. Former MSNBC host Cenk Uygur tweeted yesterday, "Our reaction as a country to Boston Marathon is going to be completely different if it's a Muslim w/ a bomb or a white shooter w/a gun." Wolf Blitzer of CNN also seemed curious about the link between Patriot's Day and the bombings. He questioned within hours of the bombings, "One intriguing notion, one intriguing thought here, and I'm curious, Mike, and I'll ask Matt to weigh in as well... It is a state holiday, in addition to the Boston Marathon. It is a state holiday in Massachusetts today called Patriots Day, and who knows if that has anything at all to deal - to do with these, these twin explosions." He then returned to the issue of it being Patriot's Day leading into an interview with an eye witness. The examples are plentiful. At the end of the day, our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims and their families. It saddens me to see others around the world, like extremist groups in Jordan, celebrating such a tragedy in America. I cannot comprehend such hate. We hope that law enforcement will be forthcoming with the facts in due time, so as to put any speculation to rest and bring those responsible to justice.
