NYC to spend $1M on ads promoting rent freeze

The city will spend $1 million reminding New Yorkers about something they probably could never forget - the Rent Guidelines Board passed its first ever rent freeze this year. The de Blasio administration is plastering subway cars, radion station and websites with ads touting the rent freeze. Officials said the campaign will also remind people that the freeze is only for one year leases, and that 2 year leases have a max 2% hike. In some cases, that's a better deal, officials said since its unclear what next year's hike will be. The reason this year was so low was because of fuel costs. The ads feature families under the tagline "NYC Rent Security." They don't mention de Blasio, who vowed to enact a rent hike when he was a candidate for mayor. De Blasio will also host his first town hall to discss the rent freeze next week in Washington Heights. That neighborhood was chosen because it is rapidly gentrifying. Joseph Strasburg, President of the Rent Stabilization Association, said de Basio is "choosing self-serving politics over sound policies" by pushing the hike. He called on him to lower water bills to help landlords. NYC will spend $1 million on ads promoting the recently enacted rent freeze.

Brooklyn woman files lawsuit for half naked arrest

NAKED - Brooklyn cops responding to a 911 call for a domestic disturbance went to the wrong apartment, pounded on a woman’s door and then dragged the nearly naked woman into the hallway and handcuffed her. “You have the wrong apartment,” she told cops, as she tried to close the door. The outrageous behavior, captured in a stunning video, has led to a lawsuit. The woman was in the shower when cops arrived. She was wrapped in a towel and wearing underwear when she cracked the door open. Cops pulled her out and left her exposed for several minutes before a female cop covered her up. A witness can be heard on the video screaming, “What are ya’ll doing? That’s a female!” Happened about 11:45 p.m. on July 13 in Brownsville. The actual 911 call came from an apartment upstairs. A Brooklyn woman is suing after she was dragged out of her apartment half naked by the NYPD last year.

The victim was shot once in the head and twice in the stomach outside the Key Club Cabaret in Eastchester about 4:15 a.m. Friday, police said. A 46-year-old man was shot to death outside a strip club in the Bronx early Friday, cops said.
