Cops seize nearly $1M worth of marijuana in West Village after finding crate labeled 'art'

On Friday, February 26, 2016, at 1320 hours, subsequent to an ongoing investigation, officers from Manhattan North Narcotics seized 150 pounds of marijuana that was being delivered to 144 Bleecker Street. The officers were on scene when the three suspects took delivery of a large wooden crate that contained the drugs. On board the delivery truck was an additional crate that also contained 150 pounds of marijuana. They're a real Picasso, alright — of pot.

A $1 million suit accuses NYPD cops of cooking up half-baked charges against a Queens woman and her teen daughter who were arrested after their oven caught fire and a burned handgun was found in the broiler. Amanda Sancler (right) turned on the oven to bake a custard dessert on Dec. 27, 2013 when she heard a loud “pop” and smoke began pouring out of the appliance. Firefighters found the char-broiled gun and called the cops, according to papers filed in Brooklyn Federal Court. Sancler, 43, and her then 17-year-old daughter, Jeselle (left), were arrested for weapon possession, according to their lawyer Paul Prestia. The gun was inoperable and the charges were dismissed six months later. The city got Easy-Off in this lawsuit.

SLAUGHTER IN SEATTLE: Washington state man shoots family then calls 911; five left dead after he kills himself outside his home in standoff with cops

A SWAT team and negotiator responded to a home near Belfair, Mason County, Wash., where a man called 911 and said he’d shot four people. No deaths have been confirmed. “We have a phone call from an individual saying he shot four people. It has not been confirmed yet,” said Chief Deputy Ryan Spurling, of the Mason County Sheriff’s Office. A Seattle-area man shot his wife and kids then alerted local police Friday morning, according to reports.

A 22-year-old inmate firefighter died a day after a large rock struck her as she battled a brush fire in Southern California, corrections officials said Friday. Shawna Lynn Jones was taken by helicopter to UCLA Medical Center with major head injuries Thursday after she was hit by a rock that fell about 100 feet from the hillside above her, said Inspector Randall Wright of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. She was taken off life support after her organs were donated, as her family requested, said Bill Sessa, a spokesman with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. A 22-year-old California inmate firefighter hit in her head by a boulder that fell 100 feet in a Malibu wildfire died Friday.
