Fort Hood Shooting
We've had yet another tragic shooting at Fort Hood. It's been nearly five years since the Fort Hood terrorist attack, which took the lives of 13 brave Americans and wounded countless others. This latest shooting opens up the wounds of that tragedy that had just begun to heal.

In this latest shooting, three people were killed and then the gunman took his own life. At least 16 others were wounded. The shooter has been identified as Specialist Ivan Lopez. He was a 34 year old father and husband. He was a veteran of the Iraq war and claimed to have suffered a traumatic brain injury, unrelated to his service. He was being treated for mental health issues, including anxiety and depression. It had yet to be determined if he was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

I'm giving you details about the gunman, not to glorify him in any way but to help gain an understanding of why these shootings happen. It's especially important considering that just a few days ago, the FBI was searching for an Army recruit who was said to be planning a "Fort Hood-inspired jihad against U.S. soldiers." While officials don't suspect terrorism in this case, they've yet to rule it out. But it's also alarming that so many people immediately try to hammer home the idea that events such as this aren't terrorism; if we don't yet know all the facts, why are we so quick to rule it out? It calls into question the lessons we've learned - or failed to learn - in the wake of Nidal Hassan's 2009 terrorist attack. Even after all these years, the Obama administration considers it to be "work place violence." This is a disservice to those who lost their lives and makes it difficult to believe that we've learned the proper lessons in order to protect our men and women in places like Fort Hood and others.

Benghazi Talking Points
Former CIA deputy director Mike Morell was in the Congressional hot seat this week. He testified before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence about the terrorist attack in Benghazi and specifically about the infamous White House talking points.

Morell revealed that the CIA knew "from the get-go" that al Qaeda was involved in the attack. Morell revealed that the CIA knew "from the get-go" that al Qaeda was involved in the attack. Morell also acknowledged that he ignored information from the top CIA officer in Libya at the time who told him that the attack was not an escalation of protests. Instead, Morell went with analyst information, which later turned out to be flawed.

As far as the talking points, Morell admitted removing the word "Islamic" because he didn't want to "further inflame" Muslims around the world. Considering the government knew from the beginning that al Qaeda was involved in the attack, the question yet to be answered is who decided to blame the YouTube video.
