Fairness in Campaigning Former Legislative Council for Congressman Barney Frank, Mark Levine, was great on ‘Hannity’ today and his criticism of the recent Supreme Court ruling barring limits to campaign contributions was interesting and very misguided.  “I don’t believe that two people, say the Koch Brothers, should have all the say in our political process,” said Levine, “Giving 600 of the most wealthy people in America really don’t need more power.”  Levine’s op-ed piece can be read here but his basic point is the same argument we’ve heard for eternity, namely campaign donations should be limited to prevent corruption.  My friend, Mark Simone countered strongly though saying, “There’s always a way to circumvent campaign finance laws so I think we should allow any amount to be donated but it needs to be given directly to the candidate so there is full transparency, no PACs or Think Tanks.”  At the end of the day we need to be incredibly careful when we start limiting free speech and I think that's what the Supreme Court was telling us this week. Alert! US Immigration Policy Is Awful  President Obama loves to claim that he vigorously enforces our immigration laws. But according to an internal document from the Department of Homeland Security, ICE officials released 68,000 illegal immigrants with criminal convictions back into the United States. The report states that "the vast majority of these releases occurred because of the Obama administration's prosecutorial discretion policies." One example was an illegal immigrant in Chicago who was charged with 42 counts of predatory sexual acts on children. He broke free from his ankle monitor and is now roaming free in the United States. The Obama administration has also failed to remove 870,000 illegal immigrants with mandatory deportation orders from the United States. Just unbelievable!   Who's The Cutest! There's a battle going on between those of us on the Hannity staff and, though I can't believe it, I'm not winning!
