Will Congress Return for Tahmooressi's Hearing? By Olivia Hammar This Wednesday, October 1st, a subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee will hold a hearing regarding Marine combat veteran Andrew Tahmooressi who has been held in Mexico on a weapons violation since April 1, 2014. The Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, led by Chairman Congressman Matt Salmon, will hold its first hearing on House Resolution 620 (HR 620), which was introduced June 11, 2014. H.R. 620 is a humanitarian resolution requesting that Mexico release Marine Veteran Andrew Tahmooressi immediately so that he can seek medical attention for his diagnosis of PTSD. As the mother of another Marine combat veteran who was held in Mexico from August 14, 2012 until December 22, 2012 on an identical weapons charge, my husband and I began advocating for Andrew's family beginning in April 2014, when they originally reached out to our family. Both our son, Jon Hammar, and Andrew Tahmooressi have suffered the ravages of multiple combat tours and both received a PTSD diagnosis from the Veterans Administration prior to their arrests. Both declared their weapons to the Mexican Customs officials and both were beaten and abused in the early days of their incarceration... continue reading Obama Blames Intel Community The rising threat of ISIS seemed to come out of nowhere over the last few months. How did that happen? In an interview on 60 Minutes, President Obama said that we underestimated the threat of ISIS and overestimated the abilities of the Iraqi military. There are two disturbing issues with this observation. The first is the fact that Obama fails to acknowledge that the Iraqis may have been in a better position had the U.S. left troops in Iraq after Obama's precious withdrawal. As for the underestimated threat of ISIS, Obama blames this on the failure the intelligence community. Obama told Steve Kroft of 60 Minutes, "Jim Clappper [Director of National Intelligence] has acknowledged that I think they underestimated what had been taking place in Syria." Again we have the president shifting blame and telling us lies.
