Opposing Obama
Voters are rejecting Obama's agenda by record numbers. How will that
translate into votes in the midterm election? Democrats should be
worries. A brand new Gallup poll finds that opposition to the
president's agenda is at a 16-year high, worse than any opposition to
George W. Bush or Bill Clinton. The Washington Examiner notes
that Obama's numbers are only 13 points higher than in 1998 when former
President Clinton was headed to impeachment for his sex affair with
Monica Lewinsky.
Perhaps the president should have considered this polling before
recently declaring
that his policies are on the ballot in November: "I am not on the
ballot this fall. Michelle's pretty happy about that. But make no
mistake: these policies are on the ballot. Every single one of them."
The Big Mistake
Obama's policies are on the ballot but that's perhaps the last
thing every Democrat who is on the ballot in November wants to hear.
Even David Axelrod said that this line was a mistake.
The Washington Post
has a chart created by Republican lobbyist Bruce Mehlman which
highlights the fact that "there is a very direct historical correlation
between presidential approval and how that president's party does in
midterm elections." By virtually every measure, Barack Obama's approval
rating on various parts of his policy is underwater.
From the economy to terrorism, the American people do not feel as
though our country is heading in the right direction under Barack Obama.
Not only are his policies not good for America, but his administration
has been mired in scandal. This has led to a lack of trust and
credibility in the eyes of Americans who already find it hard to trust
the government. |

Ebola Tests Trust in Government
The horrific Ebola virus is no longer isolated to remote parts of West
Africa but is now here in America. Should we trust what our government
is telling us about containing it and preventing an epidemic here in
America? There are two questions to consider. The first is how we can
stop Ebola from getting into the United States from these West African
countries. The other is what can be done to prevent Ebola from
spreading once it's already here.
All of this boils down to a matter of trust. Do we trust the Obama
administration and other government officials to be competent enough to
tackle the big issues? Unfortunately they haven't given us many reasons
to feel confident in their abilities.
