Emperor Obama's Decree
Last night President Obama took to shredding the Constitution,
announcing plans to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens. So
much for the rule of law. So much for our system of checks and
balances.
The unilateral changes announced by Obama were as we expected.
Illegal immigrants who are parents of U.S. citizens or permanent
residents' and have been in the country at least five years will be able
to avoid deportation. They will also be able to legally apply for
jobs.
Children of any age who were brought to the states illegally will be afforded “Dreamers” status and avoid deportation.
Part of Obama's pitch was that these illegal immigrants would be
subject to our tax laws and forced to pay their fair share. But by
bringing them into the tax system, this means that they will also be
afforded the benefits of our tax system for low-income earners.
According to Neil Munro at The Daily Caller,
they will be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit once in the
system: “According to the Internal Revenue Service, two parents with
three or more children would receive up to $6,143 in 2014 if they earn
less than $46,997. A family with two kids, and an income of $20,000,
would receive $14,590 in taxpayer funds this year alone. Parents who
earn less than the threshold would get $3,305 if they have one child,
and $5,460 if they have two children.” Munro points out
that almost half of illegal immigrant children could be classified as living below the poverty line.
Munro at The Daily Caller also points out that Obama's amnesty plan will add as many foreign workers to our labor force as new jobs created in America since 2009.
There's a reason why Obama made no mention of the Constitution in his
speech. What Obama is doing is making up his own laws and failing to
do his Constitutional duty of enforcing the laws on the books. He did
manage, however, to refer to himself 31 times, as Joel Pollak of Breitbart points out. Obama also managed to invoke scripture in order to convince the American people that he is doing the right thing.
It does not matter how altruistic or right the president may believe
his actions to be. The point is that he legally does not have the
authority to do it in the way he's done it. Doing so shreds the
foundations of our country and the very principles that make our country
great.
No person has made a better case against his actions than Barack
Obama himself. All week I've played for you the montage of clips with
Obama explaining how unilateral actions to grant amnesty are
unconstitutional. Even Jay Carney admitted
that Obama has flip-flopped, “literally” doing what he once claimed was
unconstitutional. The problem is that you cannot flip-flop on the
Constitution. The Constitution isn't something you can pick and choose
which parts to change, enforce or ignore. |

The Response
Obama's unilateral action on immigration has sparked fierce response from Americans throughout the country.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, Arizona announced that he is filing a lawsuit against Obama, calling Obama's actions a “con” of the American public.
The state attorneys-general of Oklahoma and Texas plan to sue
the president as well. After all, it is the states that are going to
have to pick up the tab and figure out how to handle much of the
processing associated with Obama's decree.
Reaction from members of Congress has been along party lines, with
Democrats praising Obama's efforts while some Republicans have adamantly
opposed the move.
John Boehner says
that Obama's executive actions were meant to “deliberately sabotage”
bipartisan efforts on this issue. He's right. It's hard to imagine how
Obama's actions will somehow foster greater cooperation between
Democrats and Republicans. It's as if this president has completely
ignored the election just weeks ago when the American people
resoundingly rejected his policies and leadership.
Republicans have options in order to stop Obama's power grab,
including passing legislation, suing the the courts and using their
power of the purse.
But it's clear that this president has no regard for our Constitution nor the will of the American people. |
