Queens water upgrade may be deadly to native horseshoe crabs

More than a dozen horseshoe crabs on the shore of the East River at College Point became stuck in a boom that was placed there as part of a water main project of MacNeil Park in Queens. The crabs had some to the shore to lay eggs but were unable to make their way back into the water. Kat Cervino of the Coastal Preservation Network helped rescue and and release them into the river. A project to upgrade water mains and sewers in northern Queens could be deadly to scores of horseshoe crabs.
