Robbing From Our Kids
Republicans in Congress have caved on the debt ceiling.  They passed a clean bill yesterday to extend the debt limit until March 2015.  Their unwillingness to fight on issues such as this reinforces the shared frustration amongst conservatives who are tired of politicians going to Washington and giving up on our principles. Twenty-eight Republicans voted for the bill, including House Speaker John Boehner, along with GOP leaders Eric Cantor and Kevin McCarthy.  You can see the full list of Republicans who voted for the bill here. I've said it before, and I will say it again: every time Congress borrows money, they are robbing from our children and our grandchildren.  It is a moral outrage that we continue to borrow, spend and grow the size of government.

For Those Who're Counting
Our debt is now over $17 trillion and rising.  The Heritage Foundation estimates that this is equivalent to $140,000 per household in America.  Our long-term unfunded liabilities are $90 trillion.  This is simply unsustainable, and the head of the CBO would agree. On the same day that Boehner and Republicans caved on this issue, the director of the CBO Doug Elmendorf issued a crucial warning before the Senate Budget Committee: "The large budget deficits recorded in recent years have substantially increased federal debt, and the amount of debt relative to the size of the economy is now very high by historical standards."  Within ten years, publicly held debt is estimated to reach 79 percent of GDP.  At those levels, Elmendorf says we are "eventually increasing the risk of a fiscal crisis."What we need in Washington are bold leaders with bold ideas that will put us on a path towards limited government, lower taxes and a free, thriving economy.  We know that these principles can work, if only given a chance.  Certain states around the country are demonstrating the power of conservative principles.

What We Need
What we need in this country is real common sense leadership.  Look at what Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker has managed to do in his state.  He took a $3.6 billion deficit and turn it into a $912 million revenue surplus within a few years.  He did this by lowering taxes, fostering an attractive economic climate and cutting government spending. Texas Governor Rick Perry was on Hannity last night, explaining how conservative principles of lowering taxes and controlling government spending have resulted in a $12 billion Rainy Day Fund and budget surplus.  Places like Texas are also allowing our energy sector to flourish, which creates jobs and subsequently taxpayers. Where are those bold conservative leaders in Washington DC?  John Boehner is clearly not the leader conservatives want or need, and caving in situations such as this highlights why that is the case. If Republicans can't win on a platform of job opportunities, keeping more of the money they earn and getting government out of their way, then the Republican Party is hopeless.
