Liberals Against Charter
Schools
Liberals wage a lot of dumb
battles in this country, but the war against charter schools is among their
dumbest. Why would anybody be against
the opportunity for our children to receive a good education? New York City
currently serves as a microcosm for what we've seen happen throughout the
nation. To set the stage, New York City
has about 180 charter schools. Students
are admitted through a highly competitive lottery system, and those who attend
are among the poorest in the city.
Nonetheless, these students far outperform their peers who attend public
school. Whether its math or reading, or
other measures of academic success, charter schools are simply providing a
better education for our children. For
example, students at Success Academy schools had a 58 percent passing rate for the state reading exam, versus just 26 percent
of public school children who pass. The
math scores were even higher.
So Why Hate Charter Schools?
So why do Liberals hate charter
schools? Here's why. They are not traditional government schools
and, for the most part, they are not beholden to the powerful teachers
unions. This is where people like
comrade de Blasio enter the picture.
Since taking office as mayor, he has done a number of things to try and
undermine the ability of these schools to raise money, build new schools or
even exist altogether. The latest battle
is over de Blasio's move to strip funding ($200 million) for three new Success
Academies. The New York State Senate is making moves today to try and un-do the damage being done by de Blasio. Education is important because it is a key
rung on the ladder to success. It
shouldn't even be a partisan issue, but it becomes one when government is
involved and has a stake in it. Now that some are trying to escape the
traditional public school education system, the government and liberals who
love government are doing everything they can to hold them back. But this comes at the expense of our
children's futures, their opportunities and the betterment of this nation.

Obama Pushes Overtime Pay
In another unilateral action on the part of the president, Obama
wants the Department of Labor to rewrite the rules on overtime pay for
salaried workers. This is yet another example of Obama using the
jackboot of government to tell people how to run their businesses.
Unsuccessful with his campaign to raise the minimum wage, overtime rules
have become his Plan B in his attempt to implement wage fairness. In
this case, he wants to make sure that salaried workers aren't being
abused by the amount of hours that they work. Some workers can earn a
decent living, but they are working longer hours in order to earn that
salary, which may actually make their hourly earnings below the minimum
wage. This is what Barack Obama
wants to avoid, and he thinks it is the role of the government to
prevent it. The reaction from the businesses community has been
described as "stunned." Apparently the move was not disclosed to the
business community before the announcement. But leave it to the
mainstream media to tout the White House talking points on how great
this will be for 10 million Americans.

Where Is This Plane - Posted by Ryooper2
Help me understand why it has taken so long to find this Malaysian
plane. Do you mean to tell me that China doesn't know where EVERY plan
that's flying near them? There has to be more to this story and I'm so
glad Sean continues to fight to get to the bottom of it!
