More To Come?
This administration's distraction topic for
the week is student loans. This is what
Obama will be focusing on today as the rest
of the nation remains incensed and bewildered over the Taliban swap for Bowe
Bergdahl. This focus on student loans is par for this administration's
course. You can look back and see the
attempt to change the narrative to anything other than the scandals at hand or
the economy. Whether it's climate change
or income inequality, the administration is losing its edge in controlling the
narrative. So long as the media continues to bring the heat, the Taliban swap
for Bowe Bergdahl remains one of the top stories. This is because we continue to learn more
information with each passing day.
The Story Unfolds The Bergdahl story has unfolded over the last few
days and, over the weekend we learned that the parents of Bowe Bergdahl were
allowed to take part in classified secure video conferences with the State
Department, as well as intelligence officials and military commanders. According to a report by the
Washington Times: "A former government official involved in American hostage
issues said he had never heard of giving a family such access and questioned
whether sensitive information could have been conveyed to Robert and Jani
Bergdahl and somehow leaked out." For a family that was so intimately involved
in the recovery efforts of their son, it's interesting to note that Bowe
reportedly declined to speak to his parents from the hospital in Germany. According to one U.S. official, "Doctors treating Sgt. Bergdahl at a U.S. military hospital in Germany
are moving slowly because of the controversy, which is complicating what would
in any case be an arduous recovery. Sgt. Bergdahl has said that he was tortured
during his captivity and thrown into a cage after a failed escape attempt."
Brand new polling from Fox News shows that a majority of Americans (52%) disagree with the Taliban
prisoner swap and think it should not have been made. Also, half of Americans (50%) believe the
swap has made America weaker. But if you
ask John Kerry, the idea that America would be more at risk with the release of
the Taliban "Dream Team" is "baloney." |

Get Out Of Jail
Free
It appears that the five prisoners who were
released may be just the beginning of Obama's plan to empty Gitmo of dangerous
terrorists. According to the New York Post, "Obama quietly is giving 'get out of jail free' cards for the
flimsiest of excuses. One al Qaeda
suspect captured in Afghanistan is considered reformed because he took up yoga
and read a biography of the Dalai Lama. Another is eligible for release because
of his 'positive attitude.' And one
longtime detainee, a former bodyguard for Osama bin Laden, is now harmless
because he's going to start a 'milk and honey farm.'" Of the 149 prisoners remaining in Gitmo, about 80 of them have been
cleared for release and hearings will continue into the summer. With a recidivism rate of 29%, we are talking
about a possible influx of some of the most dangerous terrorists back into the
battlefield. All of this begs the question, what are we doing?!
