Presidential Politics: The Holiday Challenge
As families around the country prepare to do battle around the dinner table, Donald Trump is sitting pretty with 27% of the polls
. Dr. Ben Carson, Senator Marco Rubio and Senator Ted Cruz are all
following behind. Before you get too excited and begin declaring
victory over the bowl of mashed potatoes, you should recall where we
were this time in 2008 and 2012. Thanksgiving is the beginning of the
holiday season which, while many celebrate, is also a black hole for
many campaigns. Just ask Mayor Rudy Giuliani who marched into 2008 with
28% of the vote
and by the end of January dropped out of the race. Senator John
McCain went into Thanksgiving at 12%, came out of the New Year with 17%
and by the end of January had essentially locked the nomination.
2012 wasn't much different. Heading into Thanksgiving Newt Gingrich was
leading the polls with 23%. Governor Romney had established himself as
a potential candidate but it wasn't until Speaker Gingrich's implosion in January and Senator Rick Santorum's bad Spring that Romney was able to solidify the nomination.
The point here is that, while it may seem the presidential field may be
solidifying, the holiday challenge will really define the future of this
race. We'll know a lot more as the candidates being to embark on the
toughest leg of the journey. |

Watch: Donald Trump's Brutal 15-Second Anti-Hillary Video
Donald Trump's latest salvo against Hillary might be his most brutal yet.
WATCH: Trump's Brutal Anti-Hillary Video
The :15 second video, recently posted to Trump's Instagram page, begins
by claiming that "Hillary has been having a laugh at our expense for
years." It goes on to show the former Secretary of State laughing over a
montage of some of her most glaring failures including Benghazi,
Whitewater, and her possibly criminal use of a private email server. |
