Presidential Do-over? Could you imagine how different our country and the world may be at this moment if Mitt Romney had won the 2012 presidential election? A brand new poll from CNN finds that if the election were held today, Mitt Romney would beat Barack Obama: “According to the poll, if the 2012 election were somehow held again, Romney would capture 53% of the popular vote, with the President at 44%.” It was Mitt Romney who was right about Russia. We must wonder if Putin would be willing to test our international strength if Romney was in the White House. Romney understood the geopolitical threat posed by Putin, while Obama promised Putin “flexibility.” If ever there was the Constitutional authority to have a do-over, this would be one of those times. Presidential Fatigue MSNBC's Chuck Todd says that Americans have grown “fatigued” with this president. Well it's not hard to imagine why. We've had domestic scandals dominating the headlines. From the IRS to Benghazi to the VA, it's clear that this administration has lost credibility. We now question whether our government can enforce laws impartially and whether it is competent enough to effectively execute on its duties. We've had domestic crisis such as the situation on our southern border. We now have reports of these people coming across the border, many of them children, claiming that “Obama will take care of us.” Meanwhile, our sovereignty and our rule of law has seemingly been tossed out the window. Internationally, one blunder after another has left the world in a more dangerous place and America weaker. From Ukraine to Syria to Iraq and Iran, Obama's incompetence has become a narrative making international headlines. With the abysmal failures of this administration, American “fatigue” for their President seems to fall very short of the country’s sentiment. Spin Doctors Generate Cash While President Obama continues to falter, Democrats are trying to use calls for impeachment as a campaign issue to gin up political donations. Byron York notes the Democrats' impeachment "extravaganza," with the DCCC, Nancy Pelosi, the First Lady, Obama's chief advisor and spokesman all raising the issue of impeachment over the last few days. In fact, the DCCC went on an emailing spree, warning donors that the threat of impeachment is real and that they must contribute now. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise pointed out on Fox News Sunday, "This might be the first White House in history that's trying to start the narrative of impeaching their own president." Impeachment is not to be taken lightly, but at the same time there must be an impartial system in place to check the power of the executive. It's important, beyond just Barack Obama, that an imperial president is prevented from emerging within the United States. Yet now, it's being used as a cheap weapon in the Democrats' donation arsenal. If we've learned anything from the re-election of Barack Obama, it is that elections have consequences.
