The victim attempted to run away, but was again attacked in front of 611 Edgecombe Avenue. The suspect struck the victim multiple times in the head with a beer bottle causing lacerations, swelling, and bruising to her head. The victim was transported to Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and is now in stable condition. A woman battered by a beer-bottle-wielding thug in uptown Manhattan said an officer did nothing to help.

Queens woman accused of working as madam at N.J. brothel

Charged with running a brothel in a rented northern New Jersey home, fifty-one-year-old Jung Hong Xia of Queens was arrested on Dec. 24. Englewood NJ Police said they searched the home initially on Dec. 23 after reports of women possibly being held there against their will. No one was there at the time, but officials say they found evidence that the home was being used as a brothel. The next day, Xia and three other women arrived at the home. Xia was charged with promoting prostitution and other charges. The others, who were allegedly prostitutes, were not charged. Xia was taken to Bergen County Jail. A Queens woman has been arrested for allegedly working as a madam at a New Jersey brothel.
